Who I Am

My name is Jobany Rosario and BJJ has been a mainstay in my life for over the past ten years. I started at a small MMA gym in Queens when I was 14, earned my Blue Belt, started competing, and haven't stopped since.

I trained at Clockwork from 2015 - 2019, and will always consider the gym a second home. Throughout this time I earned my purple belt and began teaching classes, first kids and then adults. Most of what I learned is from the Big Dawg, Josh.

Following this time, I chose to focus on competing. I was cross training all over NYC, but ended up making Unity my HQ. Here, I endured some of the most fun, toughest, and realest training. That led to me earning my Brown Belt from Murilo, and winning some of the most prestigious titles so far in my career.

I am currently teaching at Queens Training Club in Sunnyside, where I have been the head BJJ coach for two years. I regularly teach adult and new kids classes (which is the most rewarding and exhausting part of my day).

At this moment I would say that I am a part-time athlete and full-time coach. Because I don't exclusively train in one place, some people would consider me a "ronin" or "samurai", but unfortunately, I am not that cool.

Vision

I love what BJJ has been in my life. This art has given me confidence and helped me to continue to break the expectations I hold for myself and my body. While it is an abstract career, it have given me the opportunity to apply what I’ve learned throughout my life, on and off the mats.

I strive to provide a space that is safe, inclusive, and true to what I believe BJJ is. It is a sport, an art, and a form of self-defense. I am able to rely on my ten years of experience as a student, coach, and athlete, while continuing to push myself to learn and grow. My goal is to lead a fun, safe, and hard working environment.
